very warm welcome to the
Thomas Reade website.
My name is John
Serle and I am lucky to have one of the best jobs in the world;
being the Headteacher of
Thomas Reade Primary School.
Thomas Reade is a medium size primary school and we are very
proud of our reputation as a warm, welcoming family school.
We have high expectations of our children and set challenging
targets for them.
We encourage every child to reach their full
potential and recognise that every child is special and has
their own contribution to make.
The staff at Thomas Reade are
dedicated, hardworking and experienced. We provide a calm
and caring atmosphere in school and we foster a hardworking
ethos based on an enjoyment of learning. We expect a great deal
from our children and they do not disappoint us.
We have a very positive partnership with our parents and
community and we have a very supportive School Association,
School Council and Governing Body.
Our school can be summed up through its
is for talented teachers
is for right and responsibilities
is for potential and hopefully perfect pupils
is for sharing success
The school operates a House system.
The Houses are Garnet, Sapphire, Citrine and Malachite.
The names were chosen by the School Council and children are
allocated to a House on entry to the school.
The aim of the house
system is to allow a cross-section of the school, from the
Foundation Stage to Year 6, to work together and be rewarded as
The rewards will take the form of individual merits,
which will be awarded for the following reasons:
Every child will have their own Record of Achievement with each
individual merit counting as a house point.

All staff can award
the merits. When the children gain 25 merits they will be
rewarded by receiving the following:
There are many levels to achieve. These are No. 1, No. 2
certificates, Bronze, Silver and Gold, Platinum and Diamond. These are awarded as your child progresses through the school
from Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1 to Lower Key Stage 2 and
then Upper Key Stage 2. Please take an interest in how many
merits your child earns and give them your full support.

Board and which, after a short time, will be given to
the child to keep.

letter to go home so you can share in your child’s
merit sticker which can be displayed on books, lunchboxes,
etc., or at home.
The names of children who have received
their Headteacher's Merit Certificate are displayed on our
Success Board in the School Hall.
In addition to this
system, there will be an Attendance Certificate presented to the
class with the best weekly attendance. Children can also earn
merit certificates for being good attenders and for getting to
school on time.
All certificates and awards are presented
in our weekly Friday Achievement Assembly which ensures each and
every week finishes in style.
You are very welcome to visit Thomas Reade
